Have you ever had a prompt in your mind, whether it be a picture or phrase, or what seemed to be some type of keen awareness? You likely have, it could have been about your work, a relationship, or something difficult you are working through. We've all had these moments fly through our window, some call them a "big idea" or an "epiphany". What exactly is an epiphany?
Epiphany noun
epiph·a·ny i-ˈpi-fə-nē plural epiphanies
1: capitalized : January 6 observed as a church festival in commemoration of the coming of the Magi as the first manifestation of Christ to the Gentiles or in the Eastern Church in commemoration of the baptism of Christ
2: an appearance or manifestation especially of a divine being
3: a(1): a usually sudden manifestation or perception of the essential nature or meaning of something. (2): an intuitive grasp of reality through something (such as an event) usually simple and striking. (3): an illuminating discovery, realization, or disclosure. b: a revealing scene or moment.
Think about it, what if your life and day-to-day living was able to grasp the "an illuminating discovery, realization, or disclosure" of things that you needed a solution to?
The reality is, WE CAN. Many of us simply dismiss these moments though we don't always realize we do. Sometimes they are presented as practical, interruptive, or banal. Sometimes it's from a friend, a book, maybe even a dream. "The nudge" as we can also call it, sometimes feels uncomfortable, it can illicit a deep feeling or emotion we'd rather avoid, or something that looks different than what we expect. But, what if it's the truth? Why not explore the nudge a bit more?
Taking a nudge doesn't have to be complex, it just means cultivating an awareness that a nudge will come your way, and to start paying attention to it. When you do, you never know what the outcome might be!
